Ng Yit Ming Mimi (1961)
80.01 X 100.33CM
Mimi graduated with a Diploma in fine art from LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts and has completed a multimedia course at a private school. She has worked as an FA artist, a cartoonist, a potter and an architectural draftsperson. Bitten by the entrepreneurial bug, Mimi has recently decided to pursue a career as a craft artist. Making crafts gives Mimi “great joy” as she watches how her combination of cartooning and clay brings smiles on the faces of bystanders. In her art, Mimi is the living bard of this almost Wordsworthian philosophy: “Heed Healing Nature.” Like her paintings that retain a certain primitivism, her clay art is deliberately left unglazed and untreated to “preserve their natural beauty and ethnic feel”.
Mimi’s work represented Singapore at the 1993 VSA International Art Exhibition and Auction. In 1999, Mimi was one of the 5 VSA artists to be featured for the Artfolio Gallery- VSA ‘V’Spartio’ exhibition, which travelled to the VSA Asia Pacific Festival in Osaka, Japan. She was also one of the 13 VSA artists chosen for the Maybank-VSA Pair With An Artist programme, where she practiced under the mentorship of Singapore artist, Han Sai Por. Mimi’s corporate clients include SINDA, National Council of Social Service, former journalist Ms Nellie Har, Centralised Marketing Services and Infocomm Development Authority.
