"Art is a means for me to communicate with people my joy and feelings. I enjoy painting buildings, especially the disappearing scenes of Singapore such as old Chinatown and around the Singapore River. I get my inspiration from postcards and old photographs. I will also visit the places I want to paint whenever I have the time." Siang Hoi's love for nostalgia translates itself into numerous paintings of the Lion City's skylines, ethnic enclaves and Chinese junks. A popular VSA(S) artist with tourists, private collectors and corporations, Siang Hoi often play with his representation of building facades to better capture the essence of the street and the architechtural presence of individual buildings.
