Zhang Kaini came from China to Singapore in the 1990s. She was a teacher before her spinal cord injury in 2003. A traffic accident resulted in a broken neck and paralysis of her lower body. Kaini did not despair but braced herself and started learning how to paint with a brush using her mouth. She is now a full time artist. Kaini hopes to contribute something to society through her paintings. She wishes to inspire, encourage and touch the hearts of those who feel that there is no hope and are gradually caving into despair.
